Congratulation to the two students from the Washington D.C. Taiwanese School-TCML who represented our school in the 2024 Greater Washington Chinese School Inter-School Speech Contest and performed exceptionally well.

They brought honor to our school and received praise from Ms. Tang Qiuling, the principal of Weihua Chinese School, especially for Anna 洋安娜 speech on the topic: "How I came to know Taiwan.”

他們替學校爭光,受到講評,維華中文學校校長,湯秋玲,特別贊揚「洋安娜,講題:我怎麼認識臺灣的。」


Her speech was well-recited, with fluent expression of the theme, natural facial expressions, and infectious enthusiasm!

她的演講背誦,主題表達,流𣈱通順,表情自然,且具感染力!」

 Ms. Yang Jiaxin, Deputy Director of the Cultural Center of TECRO, presented them with honorary certificates and prizes.

僑教中心楊佳欣副主任特別頒贈榮譽獎狀及獎品。

She introduced various aspects of our culture including Indigenous customs, traditional clothing, bamboo pole dancing, modern technology like TSMC, high mountain tea, bubble milk tea, fried chicken, and even taught some new vocabulary such as "island," "humid," and "mosquitoes" in Mandarin, which they incorporated into their speeches and shared with everyone.

她介紹我們文化,搶頭香,原住民俗,傳統服裝,竹竿舞,科技現代,臺積電,高山茶,珍珠奶茶,炸雞及「來!學華語中的生字生詞,島嶼,潮濕,蚊子」等都學會而以演及講,和大家分享。

In conclusion, they emphasized the importance of language learning by saying, "In my country, Armenia, we say, the more languages you know, the more cultured you become.”

說到結尾,拉出重點「在我的國家亞美尼亞,我們說,你會的語言越多,你就會變得更有人(情)品味」。

Therefore, I am becoming more like “Taiwanese now!”

所以,我認為我已經有點像台灣人了!」

The entire audience applauded enthusiastically.

全場觀眾熱烈鼓掌。

Today, April 14, 2024, the whole class congratulated Anna Yang for bringing glory to our school in yesterday's speech contest! Teacher Wu gave her a small gift as encouragement.

今天,4/14/2024,全班同學恭喜洋安娜昨天的演講比賽替學校爭光!吳老師送她一個小禮物鼓勵.


Today we reviewed Lesson 3 from Book 2 of the Let’s learn mandarin textbook, "Red Braised Fish        is very delicious.”

今天複習「來!學華語第二冊第三課,紅燒魚非常好吃」

We looked at pictures of night markets and learned to read the following new words:

看圖片「夜市」學讀下面的生字,生詞:


烤香腸 - Grilled sausage
魯肉飯Braised pork Rice
臭豆腐Stinky Tofu
烤魷魚 Grilled squid
水果攤 Fruit stall

Using self-made teaching aids "Taiwanese Flavorful Cuisine" - without pinyin. We let classmates "listen" to the teacher read the dishes below, helping each other understand the content.

用自作教具「臺灣風味料理」-沒有拼音。讓同學「聽」老師唸下面的料理,大家互相幫助了解內容

Hoping to enhance the students’ listening skills, to recognize the new words.  We will review next week again.

 希望,可以增加同學的聽力,認字的能力。下一週,我們還會複習。

     A classmate asked about the difference between "yu" and "hua”

   同學發問「語」和「話」的分別。

            臺灣話 Taiwanese spoken words (dialect

            臺灣語 Taiwanese language

 There is difference between "「語」yu" and “「話」hua" in language naming.

Generally speaking, it seems that the scientific or classical name uses 「語」yu" and the common name, or dialects  uses 「話」hua" .





語」和「話」在語言命名上是有區別的。

一般來說,學名或文名似乎用yu,而俗名或方言則用hua
