WDCTS-TCML (Washington D.C. Taiwanese School -Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning) Conversation Class Note - April 7, 2024

 

1. Today, we have 3 student absent.

今天，我們有 4 名學生缺席。

1.     We learned these new words today as follows  —tomorrow at noon, there will be a total solar eclipse on the East Coast of the United States. Top of Form Sun, Moon, Earth, Total solar eclipse, Annular solar eclipse, and Partial solar eclipse.

1.  今天我們學會認識下面單字-明天中午，美國東部有日全蝕現象！

太陽、月亮、地球、日全食、日環食、日偏食和眼鏡。

1.  Jīntiān wǒmen xuéhuì rènshí xiàmiàn dānzì-míngtiān zhōngwǔ, měiguó dōngbù yǒu rì quánshí xiànxiàng!

  Tàiyáng, yuèliàng, dìqiú, rì quán shí, rì huán shí, rì piānshí hé yǎnjìng.

2.     Ken made an analogy and said: The radical of "全" in "全蝕" (total eclipse) is "人" (person), the top part.  He  immediately recognized another character "合" (together).

范健舉一反三說：全蝕的「全」的部首是「入」，馬上唸出另一「合」字.

2. 范健 jǔyīfǎnsān shuō: Quán shí de `quán'de bù shǒu shì `Rù', mǎshàng niàn chū lìng yī `hé'zì.

3.     Rico said, "I've been to Hefei, Anhui for a meeting."

熊大東說「我去過，安徽合肥」開會過。

3. 熊大東 shuō `wǒ qùguò, ānhuī héféi'kāihuìguò.

4.     Anna asked, "Does '肥' mean fat?"

洋安娜說「肥是不是胖？」

4. 洋安娜 shuō `féi shì bùshì pàng?'

5.     Rico said, "My wife is Mami Kawano."

熊大東說「我的太太是河野真美-Mami Kawano」

5. 熊大東 shuō `wǒ de tàitài shì héyě zhēnměi-Mami Kawano'

6.     Ken said, "My wife's surname is also '河' (He), from a county in Guangzhou. Our ancestors were in charge of ferrying across the river in '河縣' (Hexian County). I wonder if it's because of our ancestors that there's '河縣,' or did '河縣' exist first, or is it related to our ancestors' surname ('河' or '何' - He or Ho)?”

范健說「我太太的姓也是「河」在廣州的一個縣。祖先是「看管河縣的河流渡船。」不知是「河？」因為祖先的関係，才有「河縣？」或是先有「河縣？」還是「祖先的姓？（河或何）？」

6. 范健 shuō `wǒ tàitài de xìng yěshì `hé'zài guǎngzhōu de yīgè xiàn. Zǔxiān shi `kānguǎn hé xiàn de héliú dùchuán.'Bùzhī shì `hé?'Yīnwèi zǔxiān de guānxì, cái yǒu `hé xiàn?'Huò shì xiān yǒu `hé xiàn?'Háishì `zǔxiān de xìng?(Hé huò hé)?'

7.     Rico said confidently “ World Peace!”

熊大東又很高興的說出「世界和平！」

7. Xióng dàdōng yòu hěn gāoxìng de shuō chū `shìjiè hépíng!'

8.     Today we learned about homophones (homonyms) with different characters—河 (river), 何 (what), 合 (together), and 和 (harmony).

今天，我們學到「同音異字-河，何，合，和」.

8. Jīntiān, wǒmen xué dào `tóngyīn yìzì-hé, hé, hé, hé'

 9.     Anna practiced and rehearsed her speech "My Understanding of Taiwan" for next Saturday’s speech contest. Three minutes. The written speech is our assignment that she wrote herself.  The whole class applauded and encouraged her for such an outstanding activity.

洋安娜今天練習下星期六的演講比賽「我認識的臺灣」。三分鐘。她說得很好! 文稿講詞是我們的作業！全班拍拍手鼓勵她。

9. 洋安娜 jīntiān liànxí xià xīngqíliù de yǎnjiǎng bǐsài `wǒ rènshí de táiwān'. Sān fēnzhōng. Tā shuō dé hěn hǎo! Wéngǎo jiǎng cí shì wǒmen de zuòyè! Quán bān pāi pāishǒu gǔlì tā.

10.  Last week, after losing the rock-paper-scissors game, I encouraged Ken, "Next year, it should be your turn to participate!"

10. 上星期，剪刀，石頭，布比賽，輸掉的范健同學, 我鼓勵他說「明年該輪到你參加！」

10. Shàng xīngqí, jiǎndāo, shítou, bù bǐsài, shū diào de fàn jiàn tóngxué, wǒ gǔlì tā shuō `míngnián gāi lún dào nǐ cānjiā!'

11.  Joseph pointed to Taiwan map that the earthquake shook Taiwan on April 3.  The epicenter of the earthquake was in Hualien.”
