We discussed the story of "The Journey to the West" and performed it using puppetry with Sun Wukong causing chaos in the Heavenly Palace with his "Golden Cudgel," to illustrate the importance of learning the four tones in Mandarin. The teacher and students took turns playing roles, correcting each other's pronunciation, applauding, and encouraging correct tones, while correcting inaccuracies.

3. Wǒmen tǎolùn xuéxí `xīyóu jì'de gùshì, yòng sūnwǔ kōng yǎn `bùdài xì'. Yòng tā de `jīn gū bàng'dà nào tiāngōng, lái shuōmíng xuéxí huáyǔ sìshēng de zhòngyào. Lǎoshī tóngxuémen hùhuàn juésè, bǐcǐ xiūgǎi fāyīn, pāishǒu zànyáng hé gǔlì zhèngquè de shēngyīn, dàn jiūzhèng bù zhǔnquè de yīndiào.

 4. The fourth tone is a very heavy tone. Explanation: Just as Sun Wukong tried to escape, the Buddha seized the opportunity to grab him and pressed him under the palm of his hand, transforming it into the Five-Finger Mountain. 4. Zuìhòu de dì sì shēng shì hěn zhòng de yīn. Shuōmíng: Jiù zài sūnwùkōng xiǎng yào táozǒu shí, rúlái fó chènjī bǎ tā zhuā guòlái, yā zài zìjǐ shǒuzhǎng biànchéng de wǔzhǐshān dǐxia. Cóngcǐ yǐhòu, sūnwùkōng zhǐ néng dài zài wǔzhǐshān xià, dùguò màncháng de wǔbǎi niánle.

Today, we used "rock-paper-scissors" to practice reading and writing, to decide who will participate in the "2024 Greater Washington Chinese School Speech Contest" - Anna has won both times, so she will represent. The other participant is a student from the advanced class. Because one school, the adult class can only have two participants.

 7.   Today, in coordination with the cultural activity of Washing DC Taiwanese schools' puppetry, after class, Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning Center (TCML), we all had the opportunity to watch the puppetry activities prepared by the school. Thanks to all the unnamed heroes, the school's parent-teacher association, and Culture Teacher Li for making this event very successful.

豬八戒 - 為什麼叫豬八戒？- Why is it named Zhu Bajie (豬八戒)?

According to Author of  "Journey to the West," Zhu Bajie (豬八戒) was originally the Marshal of the Heavenly Canopy, commanding eighty thousand celestial soldiers in the heavenly court. Due to his drunken misconduct at the Peach Banquet where he harassed the Moon Goddess, the Jade Emperor punished him.  After being struck with a mallet two thousand times, he was demoted to the mortal realm and reincarnated into a pig-like appearance. He later killed his mother pig, slaughtered a group of pigs, occupied Mount Fuling, and survived by devouring humans.

According to Buddhist Sutra – eight precepts (abstinences) 八戒

abstaining from

1.     1. killing,

2.     2. stealing,

3.     3. sexual misconduct,  

4.     4. false speech,

5.     5. intoxicants,

6.     6. adorning oneself with ornaments, perfumes, or cosmetics, singing, dancing, watching entertainment,

7.     7. using luxurious beds or seats, and

8.     8. eating at inappropriate times.

豬八戒為何被稱為豬八戒？

據《西遊記》作者所述，豬八戒原是天官元帥，統領八萬天兵，供職於天庭。因其在蟠桃會上酒醉失態，猥褻月宮嫦娥，被玉帝處罰。受到兩千下鎚的懲戒後，被貶至凡間，轉世為豬相。後來他殺死母豬，屠殺一群豬，佔據伏羲山，並以吞食人類為生。 根據佛經所述，八戒指的是佛教的八戒，即遠離八種不善行為。
