Taiwan Tobacco
and Liquor Corporation (TTL; Chinese: 臺灣菸酒股份有限公司; pinyin: Táiwān
Yān Jiǔ Gǔfèn Yǒuxiàn Gōngsī), is a state-owned manufacturer and distributor of
cigarettes and alcohol, and also formerly (until 2002) a state-sanctioned
alcohol beverage brewing and retailing monopoly, in Taiwan. Its most famous
product is Taiwan Beer. Other products include wine, Japanese-style liqueurs,
Chinese herb liqueurs, and various distilled spirits.
Taiwan Tobacco and Wine Monopoly
(1947 – 2002) was a government agency established during
Japanese colonial rule. In 2002, it was renamed as Taiwan Tobacco and
From
1947 to 1968, the Bureau specialized in all alcohol, tobacco and camphor
products sold in Taiwan. Before Taiwan joined the WTO in 2002, it retained
monopolies on tobacco and alcohol. And it also changed the word in Chinese "smoke from「煙」to「菸」。".
Conclusion - After 12 years of hard work, Taiwan officially joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) on January 1, 2002. In order to implement its commitment to join the WTO, the tobacco and alcohol monopoly system was finally abolished. On July 1 of the same year, the Public Sales Bureau was restructured into "Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Co., Ltd." and became a state-owned enterprise with production and sales as its main business.
