Granola to Tamarillos!
My annual Christmas ritual – a passion
for making Eggnog Granola – turns something
special this year!

It’s just a simple gift meant to be nourished and to inspire
you to live a healthier life. Little did
I know that I received 6 sweet, rare Tamarillos, aka Tree Tomatoes
or Miracle Fruits from Amy Lin.

It’s mere coincidence that brought us together so far from San Francisco,
CA.
What a special treat from sharing the tradition of annual
ritual:
Ben, my husband couldn’t wait to savor this red-plum like fruit last night. It reminds him of the “Passion Fruits” from his backyard in WaiPu, Taichung, Taiwan. A wave of nostalgia came over him. The fruits evoked the memories of his childhood days. The old thatched-roof house where he was born shaped his life.

Each one left a footprint small and big adventure here.

What a memory lane in Taiwan brought us from this “Unique Miracle Fruit – Tamarillo.”

It’s so sweet and juicy. We scraped the pulp all the way to the skin. It has the texture of Papaya and Mellon with subtly tender meat and crunchy seeds. It’s not like “Asia Passion Fruit” which is pleasantly tangy and tart with a hint of sweetness, but the pulp is hard and rubbery.
I am going to save them for sharing with other members in
the choir. In the
meantime, I will look for “Asia Passion Fruits”
from the local market to make the comparisons between them.
Christmas is a time for family, friends to get together, as
we share gifts, food, fruits, and good cheer.
Thank Amy Lin for sharing with me the “Tamarillo Tree” picture from her neighbor’s backyard where she picked them from before heading east for Christmas Family Holiday. She took neighbor’s earnest plea for sharing with us. How heartwarming and touching!
