• Yesterday, Darrell Rico Doss ( 熊大東) represented Washington DC Taiwanese School to participate in the Washington Metropolitan Association of Chinese Schools (WMACS) Speech Contest for adults Groups.  He achieved excellent results.  He not only won a certificate but also received a bonus award.  He was interviewed by a reporter from the World Journal of Washington DC.   The following is his speech title - "Beautiful Taiwan".

• 昨天, Darrell Rico Doss (熊大東) 代表華府台灣學校參加 大華府地區中文學校聯誼會 演講比賽成人組. 成績優異, 獲得獎狀和獎金, 並且接受世界日報記者訪問.   以下是他的演講題目——《美麗的台灣》. 

• Zuótiān Darrell Rico Doss (熊大東) dàibiǎo huá fǔ táiwān xuéxiào cānjiā dà huá fǔ dìqū zhōngwén xuéxiào liányì huì yǎnjiǎng bǐsài chéngrén zǔ. Chéng jì yōuyì, huòdé jiǎngzhuàng hé jiǎngjīn, bìngqiě jiēshòu shìjiè rìbào jìzhě fǎngwèn.   Yǐxià shì tā de yǎnjiǎng tímù——“měilì de táiwān”.

  
  
  

• 臺灣的美麗是因為她的人民。

  台灣是一個富饒的島嶼，它的食物很美味。

  我的太太是日本人。我們可以乘船從臺灣去日本南部的一些島嶼, 像地處亞熱帶的沖繩。

  那裏的人，非常親切，就像台灣人一樣。

  台灣有崎嶇美麗的山脈，如阿里山。

  台灣有水牛. 它是很有用的動物。

  這些溫柔巨大的水牛幫助農民, 每年生產數百萬噸米。

  我將台灣的水牛和經常與獅子打架的非洲水牛比較一下,

  台灣水牛是世界的標誌性動物。

  我讀到“老水牛，稻田，翅膀上的白鷺”, 它們代表臺灣的田園風光。

  我非常喜歡這一個國家。

  The beauty of Taiwan is because of its people.

  Taiwan is a rich island, and its food is delicious.

  My wife is Japanese. We can go by boat from Taiwan to some islands in southern Japan, like Okinawa which is in the subtropics.

  The people there are very kind, just like Taiwanese.

  Taiwan has rugged and beautiful mountains such as Alishan.

  Taiwan has water buffalo. It is a very useful animal.

  These gentle giant buffaloes help farmers and produce millions of tons of rice every year.

  I compare the Taiwanese buffalo with the African buffalo that often fights with lions,

  The Taiwanese buffalo is an iconic animal in the world.

  I read "Old Buffalo, Rice Field, Egret on Wings", they represent the idyllic scenery of Taiwan.

  I like this country very much.

  Táiwān dì měilì shì yīnwèi tā de rénmín.

  Táiwān shì yīgè fùráo de dǎoyǔ, tā de shíwù hěn měiwèi.

  Wǒ de tàitài shì rìběn rén. Wǒmen kěyǐ chéng chuán cóng táiwān qù rìběn nánbù de yīxiē dǎoyǔ, xiàng de chù yàrèdài de chōngshéng.

  Nàlǐ de rén, fēicháng qīnqiè, jiù xiàng táiwān rén yīyàng.

  Táiwān yǒu qíqū měilì de shānmài, rú ālǐ shān.

  Táiwān yǒu shuǐniú. Tā shì hěn yǒuyòng de dòngwù.

  Zhèxiē wēnróu jùdà de shuǐniú bāngzhù nóngmín, měinián shēngchǎn shù bǎi wàn dùn mǐ.

  Wǒ jiāng táiwān de shuǐniú hé jīngcháng yǔ shīzi dǎjià de fēizhōu shuǐniú bǐjiào yīxià,

  Táiwān shuǐniú shì shìjiè de biāozhì xìng dòngwù.

  Wǒ dú dào “lǎo shuǐniú, dàotián, chìbǎng shàng de báilù”, tāmen dàibiǎo táiwān de tiányuán fēngguāng.

  Wǒ fēicháng xǐhuān zhè yīgè guójiā.

• Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL) was held today successfully.  We will be getting the test results from The Ministry of Education (MOE) in Taiwan soon.
