  • Teacher Wu said, "How is every one? Darrell Rico Doss ( 熊大東) can't come to the class today.  You all cut your hair and had the first dosage of COVID19 vaccine shots.  You all look very nice. Are you all ready for spring travel plans?"  吳老師說: "大家好!  Darrell Rico Doss ( 熊大東)，今天不能上課了。 大家都剪了頭髮，並接種了第一針COVID 19 疫苗。 你們看起來都很好。 你們準備好春季旅行計劃了嗎？" Wú lǎoshī shuō: "Dàjiā hǎo!  Darrell Rico Doss ( 熊大東) jīntiān bùnéng shàngkèle. Dàjiā dōu jiǎnle tóufà, bìng jiēzhǒngle dì yī zhēn COVID 19 yìmiáo. Nǐmen kàn qǐlái dōu hěn hǎo. Nǐmen zhǔnbèi hǎo chūnjì lǚxíng jìhuàle ma?"
  • Steven  (葛艾倫) said:  "My wife will arrange  "Goodstone Inn" in Middleburg, VA, a vacation village" to enjoy  a vacation after the vaccination." - Steven  (葛艾倫) 說: "我的太太將在疫苗接種後安排Middleburg, Virginia 的“ Goodstone Inn”度假村”度假"  Steven  (葛艾倫) shuō: " Wǒ de tàitài jiàng zài yìmiáo jiēzhǒng hòu ānpái Middleburg, Virginia de “Goodstone Inn” dùjiàcūn” dùjià."
  • Raymond(書宗)  said:  "Teacher, could you tell me how to pronounce these two characters of "spring" and "village"? " - Raymond(書宗)  說: "老師，你能告訴我如何發音“春”和“村”這兩個字嗎？" Raymond(書宗)  shuō: " Lǎoshī, nǐ néng gàosù wǒ rúhé fāyīn “chūn” hé “cūn” zhè liǎng gè zì ma?"
  • "日 (rì)" is taken as the radical of "春 (chūn)." And the upper part of "春 (chūn)" looks like sprouts growing into plants. 
    You curl up inward the tongue for "chūn" sound 

    “cūn” sound - you do not curl up inward the tongue 

    "Tree" is the radical - where crops grow and people gather in the village

  • Raymond(書宗)  said:  "I plan to visit my parents in Tennessee in July.  My wife and I already had Johnson and Johnson vaccine shots." - Raymond(書宗)  說: "我計劃在7月拜訪我在田納西州的父母。 我的太太和我已經註射了Johnson and Johnson 疫苗。Raymond(書宗)  shuō: " Wǒ jìhuà zài 7 yuè bàifǎng wǒ zài Tennessee de fùmǔ. Wǒ de tàitài hé wǒ yǐjīng zhù shèle Johnson and Johnson yìmiáo."
  • Teacher Wu said, "Raymond(書宗)'s daughter said 'hi,  teacher!"  I asked, 'Does she have costume party today?  "Raymond said, "No, she still has the pajama on."  Steve immediately said, "I  also told my daughter to change her closthes because  she needs to get ready for on-line Taiwanese School."  "  吳老師說: "Raymond(書宗)的女兒說：“嗨，老師！”我問：“她今天有化妝舞會嗎？”雷蒙德說：“不，她還穿著睡衣。” 史蒂夫立即說：“我告訴我的女兒換衣服，因為她需要準備上線台灣學校。”" Wú lǎoshī shuō: "Raymond(書宗) dé nǚ'ér shuō:“Hāi, lǎoshī!” Wǒ wèn:“Tā jīntiān yǒu huàzhuāng wǔhuì ma?” Léi méng dé shuō:“Bù, tā hái chuānzhuó shuìyī.” Shǐ dì fū lìjí shuō:“Wǒ gàosù wǒ de nǚ'ér huàn yīfú, yīnwèi tā xūyào zhǔnbèi shàngxiàn táiwān xuéxiào."
  • Teacher Wu said, "we are going to teach Lesson 49 "Registration"  today."  吳老師說: "我們今天要教第49課 “註冊”。" " Wú lǎoshī shuō: "Wǒmen jīntiān yào jiào dì 49 kè “zhùcè”."

  • Teacher Wu said, "I read today's Washington Post today about "American Ivy-League colleges' admission inequity."  It reminds me of my college entrance exam in 1967.  My grade was 412.  The full score was of 600.  I was so lucky to be admitted to one of the elite 4 pubic schools at that time.  The admission rate was 14% then.  The tough entrance exam and 3 years of high school preparation were a harrowing nightmare for all high schoolers.  Very often, I was still alarmed and awakened from how I totally forgot to write my name and the back page of the test paper."  
  •  吳老師說: "我今天讀了《華盛頓郵報》，內容是“美國常春藤聯盟大學的錄取不平等”。 這讓我想起了1967年的大學入學考試。我的成績是412。滿分是600。我很幸運被當時的四所頂尖公立學校之一錄取。 當時的錄取率為14％。 艱難的入學考試和3年的高中準備對於所有高中生來說都是一場噩夢。 很多時候，我仍然被完全忘記寫下自己的名字和試卷背面的內容而感到震驚和驚醒。" 
  • Wú lǎoshī shuō: "Wǒ jīntiān dúle “huáshèngdùn yóu bào”, nèiróng shì “měiguó cháng chūnténg liánméng dàxué de lùqǔ bù píngděng”. Zhè ràng wǒ xiǎngqǐle 1967 nián de dàxué rùxué kǎoshì. Wǒ de chéngjī shì 412. Mǎnfēn shì 600. Wǒ hěn xìngyùn bèi dāngshí de sì suǒ dǐngjiān gōnglì xuéxiào zhī yī lùqǔ. Dāngshí de lùqǔ lǜ wèi 14%. Jiānnán de rùxué kǎoshì hé 3 nián de gāozhōng zhǔnbèi duìyú suǒyǒu gāozhōng shēng lái shuō dōu shì yīchǎng èmèng. Hěnduō shíhòu, wǒ réngrán bèi wánquán wàngjì xiě xià zìjǐ de míngzì hé shìjuàn bèimiàn de nèiróng ér gǎndào zhènjīng hé jīngxǐng.."
  • Raymond(書宗)  said:  "Teacher, what subjects did they test you in the college entrance exam? ." - Raymond(書宗)  說: "老師，他們在大學入學考試中對您進行了哪些科目考試？。" - Raymond(書宗)  shuō: " Lǎoshī, tāmen zài dàxué rùxué kǎoshì zhōng duì nín jìnxíngle nǎxiē kēmù kǎoshì?"
  • Teacher Wu said, "In 1960-70 era, for Taiwan's college, there are 4 categories: #1 #2 (Liberal Arts, Business & legal departments ) - National Chinese, English, Mathematics,  Three Principles of the People (common-core test courses)  and geography and history.  #3 (Science & Engineering departments) - all four (common-core test courses), and the physics and chemistry. #4 (Medical & Nursing departments) - all four (common-core test courses), and the biology and chemistry.  The path to major colleges was very narrow.  The trend to reform in education is necessary for Taiwan to keep up with the global status. There was a common trend slogan in 1960-1970 era for students."

  • Wú lǎoshī shuō: "Zài 1960-70 niándài, Táiwān dàxué yǒu 4 zhǒng fēnlèi: #1, #2(Wénkē, shāngyè hé fǎxué xì)-guówén, yīngyǔ, shùxué, Sānmín zhǔyì (Gòngtóng kēmù) yǐjí dìlǐ hé lìshǐ. #3(Kēxué yǔ gōngchéng xì)-quánbù sì kē (Gòngtóng kēmù) yǐjí wùlǐ hé huàxué. #4(Yīxué hé hùlǐ xué xì)-quánbù sì kē (Gòngtóng kēmù)  yǐjí shēngwù hé huàxué. Jìnrù zhuānyè dàxué de dàolù fēicháng xiázhǎi. Táiwān bǎochí quánqiú dìwèi. Jiàoyù gǎigé shì bìyào de. Zài 1960-1970 niándài, xuéshēngmen yǒu yīgè gòngtóng de qūshì kǒuhào."
    "One test decides your whole life"
    "Come, come, come, come to Taiwan National University.
    "Go, go, go, go to America."

  • Raymond(書宗)  said:  "This is the same as SAT fair test.  It is to decide the admission for  American students to the major tier colleges.  But, for all American college prep cram schools, and Taiwan's cram schools which are all competitive and lucrative business markets." 
  • Raymond(書宗)  說: "這與SAT公平考試相同。 這是決定美國學生是否被主要大學錄取的決定。 但是，對於所有美國大學預科班補習班和台灣的補習班補習班來說，它們都是競爭激烈且利潤豐厚的商業市場。"

  • Steven  (葛艾倫) said:  "There is no SAT test required this year for Johns Hopkins University incoming freshmen due to COVID-19.  I have to wait for another four years worrying about my daughter.." - Steven  (葛艾倫) 說: "由於COVID-19，今年Johns Hopkins University入學新生不需要進行SAT測試。 我還要再等四年才為我的女兒擔心。.  " - Steven  (葛艾倫) shuō: "Yóuyú COVID-19, jīnnián Johns Hopkins University rùxué xīnshēng bù xūyào jìnxíng SAT cèshì. Wǒ hái yào zài děng sì nián cái wèi wǒ de nǚ'ér dānxīn."
  • Raymond(書宗)  said:  "My mother told me that Taiwan's mortality rates are now higher than the birth rates." 
  • Raymond(書宗)  說: "我媽媽告訴我，台灣的死亡率現在高於出生率。"  
  • Raymond(書宗)  shuō: " Wǒ māmā gàosù wǒ, táiwān de sǐwáng lǜ xiànzài gāo yú chūshēnglǜ."
  • Joseph (高 靖和) said:  "It's so sad!  My wife said that the some of the departments in Taiwan's colleges now are forced to consolidate the different departments into one because it's harder to recruit the students." Joseph (高 靖和) 說: "真傷心！ 我的太太說，現在台灣大學的某些部門被迫將不同的部門合併為一個部門，因為招募學生比較困難。" Joseph (高 靖和)  shuō: "Zhēn shāngxīn! Wǒ de Tài tài shuō, xiànzài táiwān dàxué de mǒu xiē bùmén bèi pò jiāng bùtóng de bùmén hébìng wéi yīgè bùmén, yīnwèi zhāomù xuéshēng bǐjiào kùnnán."

  • Raymond(書宗)  said:  "Teacher, I have one question to ask you, "what do you think about the educational method between Taiwan and America?"" 
  • Raymond(書宗)  說: "老師，我有一個問題要問您：“您如何看台灣與美國之間的教育方式？”"  
  • Raymond(書宗)  shuō: " Lǎoshī, wǒ yǒu yīgè wèntí yào wèn nín:“Nín rúhé kàn Táiwān yǔ měiguó zhī jiān de jiàoyù fāngshì?"
  • Teacher Wu said, "I had my foundation laid solidly in Taiwan.  I was fortunate to have more learning envionment in America. "  吳老師說: "我的根基紮根於台灣。 我很幸運在美國有了更多的學習環境。” Wú lǎoshī shuō: "Wǒ de gēnjī zhāgēn yú táiwān. Wǒ hěn xìngyùn zài měiguó yǒule gèng duō de xuéxí huánjìng."

    Today, we have reviewed "Let's Learn mandarin" Volume 1, Lesson 5 - how to differentiate "where?" and "there." in tones.  The class was video-recorded for one of the required sessions of teacher's training program for "Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning Teacher's Certificate.  今天，我們複習《來!學華語》第1冊第五課——如何區分“哪裡？ 和“那裡” 音調。 該課程為“ 「台灣華語文學習中心」 教師認證”教師培訓計劃必修課之一的視頻錄製。 Jīntiān, wǒmen fùxí “lái!
